Darlington's Shopmobility Scheme, provided by Darlington Association on Disability, and funded by Darlington Borough Council, is all about helping people who have mobility impairments to be able to get out and about independently in Darlington town centre. It aims to help them to shop, to enjoy facilities and to see the great new town centre, with its new wide promenades and largely pedestrianised core to the town.

Conveniently located at 20-22 Horsemarket, next to the Dolphin Leisure Centre, facing onto the pedestrianised Market Square, the centre can provide help with a range of disability issues.

Shopping: the FREE manual and electric wheelchair and scooter loan service, helps mobility impaired visitors get around Darlington and its great range of shops and markets much more easily.

Maps: there are maps to help you find the best wheelchair route around the town if you want to venture off in a hired or your own wheelchair, which indicate the dropped kerbs and how best to navigate the town centre. Check out the wheelygood website for interactive maps.

Free parking under the forecourt of the Town Hall Council Chamber can be arranged for users of the Shopmobility Service, who can also bring the wheelchair to your vehicle if pre-arranged. There is a level polatform across the road from the parking place under the Town Hall Council Chamber to the Shopmobility office opposite.

For further information on the Shopmobility service contact them by telephone on +44 01325 489999 or by e-mail, they are open Monday to Saturday 9.30am-5.00pm.

Public WC provision information for accessible public WC provision in Darlington can be obtained from the Wheelygood website and also the DirectGov site.  Within the town centre there are accessible public WCs in the Cornmill Shopping Centre, the Dolphin Leisure Centre facing the Market Square and under the Market Hall at East Row - none of which require RADAR keys.  A RADAR operated WC is located close to the Shopmobility Unit, on Feethams on the east side of the Dolphin Centre building.
