Darlington's Art in the Yards is a superb exhibition of large-scale, original artworks located in both Clark's and Buckton's Yards in Darlington town centre.

The art is the work of Foundation Degree Students from Darlington's Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College and formed part of their final major pieces for their examination submissions in Spring 2008.

The works now grace Darlington town centre and encourage visitors to walk down these medieval like yards to discover not only the art itself but the unique businesses, cafés and sights in this special part of the town centre.

The artworks in Buckton's Yard are:

'Jigsaw' by Callum Whitley, the largest piece in the exhibition in vibrant tones and textures which reflects the unique new painting technique which Callum developed and pioneered in this work
'Drape' by Merlyn Griffiths, two beautiful pieces of work in pastel, fluid tones, reminiscent of fabric cascading down the walls which the art graces
'Bricks' by Isobel Watts, a vibrant, multi-hued piece portraying exciting textured ‘bricks’ which brighten the walls around them. Isobel exhibited in the prestigious Dover Prize Exhibition in 2008.

Artworks in Clark's Yard are:

'Clark's Stables' by Alex McDonald, the award-winner of the Dover Art Prize 2008 - whose work here in the yard is a life size depiction of three horses reflecting the feel of the yard and its possible former historic role
'Untitled' by Carl Richardson, an abstract piece portraying a platform-style computer game screen. Carl was inspired for the piece by the location of the artwork, next door to Chips computer shop

Darlington Borough Council was delighted to work on this project in conjunction with Darlington Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College and Darlington Town Centre Board and hopes to develop the 'Art in the Yards' further with new student works for 2009.
